Okay, I should have posted this two days ago...

If by "painful" they mean outstanding and by "god-awful" they mean as hot as ever, then I agree! Why is everyone so filled with jealousy? Why is everyone out to get Britney? Why can't they just accept the fact that everything she does is amazing? Why?

Yes, I know I'm sick. But I still find her so hot. She could kick her head back (losing her wig in the process), proceed to throw up on stage and then fall all over it and I'd still have the hots for her. I need help.

Nothing wrong with still thinking she's hot (even though I have ALWAYS maintained that she has a dogface).

But that wasn't much of a performance. The saying goes "Practice makes perfect" not "Partying all the time and showing up to rehearsal 5 hours late with a margarita in your hand and unable to do any of the choreography makes perfect".

Good point cutekilla. I've been thinking about this a lot.

Had bitney worn a dress or, fuck, even a short, skanky spandex skirt and halter-top or something and did that exact same performance, people would say "Christ, what a gongshow that was, but at least she looks great again" The fact that she wore something so deeply unflattering didn't help. You know who would look good in a spangly bikini and fishnets while under the hot glare of televison lights? Jessica Biel and Britney Spears circa 2001.

Poor Britey, she'll be forever compared to her former self, which is to say she'll be forever compared to perfection. Not to say that she ever made perfect(or even good) music, but circa 1999-2004, she pretty much had the market cornered on perfect physique and perfect, machine-like dance moves.

That Albino snake "I'm a slave 4 U" VMA performance is probably the platonic ideal of a MTV VMA performance. (Not to mention it's her best song by a country mile) So when she she stumbles out, glassy-eyed and shuffling through a VMA performance, the fall is glaring. Yikes.

Check your head Beer, Britney's best song is obviously Toxic.

I'm with Beer: "Slave For U" is her best track and MVA performance by a long shot. Although the Mark Ronson version of "Toxic" is quite enjoyable and props to Bloodshy & Avant's production.

Both Beer and Cutekilla are far out to lunch on this issue. The only way I would accept "dogface" is if it was akin to my beautiful Bobo. And the performance was glorious in its subtlety. Yes, I'm going to go with that.

And Coop beat me to my second point. Toxic is easily her best song. There really isn't any debating that. I'm A Slave 4 U ? Come on. While the whole python thing was certainly hot, the song itself is plodding and dull.

I'm sticking to my guns with 'Slave', but I will say that 'Toxic' is a close second. With 'Boys' at third (I'm a Neptunes fan).

And you know what? That "Gimmie More" song she 'performed' is probably fourth. (her new songs sound wierdly late 80's Prince-esque, like Vanity 6 or Carmen Electra.)

And that's it. Four listenable songs from a woman who has a 'greatest hits' collection.

I suppose subtle is one way to put it. It must have been elephant-sized dosage of downers she was doped with to calm her down after a bitch-fight with her stylist over her hideous weave right before the performance that allowed her to tap into that level of nuance.
